Norm Gagne

Musical Styles: Classic Jazz Piano

One of the most recent additions to the low-country jazz scene is none other than pianist and Connecticut native Norm Gagne.

Gagne is a disciple of the legendary pianist and teacher, Lennie Tristano. His piano style is rooted in jazz history and evokes hints of Tristano, Bud Powell, Art Tatum, Hank Jones, Hampton Hawes and George Shearing. He has performed and recorded with a vast array of jazz masters including Houston Person, John Stubblefield and the great George Coleman.

For the last 12 years Gagne has been a member of The Paul Brown Quartet which has performed up and down the east coast.
The quartet has (4) CDs under its belt with the last one being released in Japan in April. In addition to his piano work, Gagne is also an arranger and a composer of merit and will be a very busy leader and sideman in the months ahead.

Hi, Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed The Jazz Corner, especially Bobby Ryder's performance on Monday night while we were there on vacation. I've always liked jazz, but was not particularly "into it". My sister, brother-in-law and I came there looking for something different. It was without a doubt the best thing we did while on the Island. The people there are just sweet, down-to-earth people who did everything possible to see that we had a good time. The food was out of this world (thanks to the chef) and the show was completely unexpected. It was way beyond our expectations. We enjoyed it so much, we had to come back the next night. We left the next day, but you can bet if we ever come back to the Island - we'll be there at the The Jazz Corner. It was the highlight of our vacation and we'll recommend it to anyone going there.
